Jakarta, Aug. 29 -- Indonesian House Speaker Puan Maharani has urged the National Police to enforce the law transparently and thoroughly investigate the death of an online motorcycle taxi (ojek) driver, who was run over by a police tactical vehicle during a protest on Thursday.

Maharani reminded security officers to act in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure no one is harmed.

"Do not use excessive force, let alone injure people," she said in a statement on Friday.

The protest was triggered by Thursday's rally at the Parliamentary Complex, which ended with the death of 21-year-old Affan Kurniawan, an ojol driver struck by a police tactical vehicle seen moving toward protesters in widely circulated videos.
