Jakarta, Feb. 13 -- Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, is targeting the expansion of the Hajj Village project in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, by purchasing another plot of land 600 meters from the Grand Mosque.

This expansion follows the acquisition of a hotel (Novotel Makkah) and real estate assets located within the Thakher City complex, 2.5 kilometers from the Grand Mosque.

"Next, we will purchase land approximately 600 meters from the Grand Mosque," CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, said during his presentation at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that the Hajj Village will be equipped with a tunnel. However, he did not specify which tunnel will connect it to the Mecca area.
