Jakarta, March 20 -- Indonesia's Peatland and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) stated that it had restored 1.6 million hectares of peatland and rehabilitated around 84,000 hectares of mangroves from 2016 to 2024.

"Peatland and mangrove restoration not only restores the environment but also improves the quality of life for surrounding communities," BRGM Chief Secretary Ayu Dewi Utari said in a statement issued on Thursday.

She noted that the agency was established under the authority of the president and will complete its working period in December 2024.
