Jakarta, Feb. 3 -- The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is prioritizing seaweed as one of its five flagship commodities to meet rising global demand.

Alongside seaweed, the other four commodities being prioritized as champion commodities are shrimp, tilapia, crab, and lobster, Director of Seaweed at the Directorate General of Aquaculture, KKP, Nono Hartanto, remarked during an online seminar in Jakarta on Monday.

Hartanto noted that global demand for seaweed is projected to grow steadily. "Data from Seaweed Forecast and the World Bank confirm this upward trend," he stated adding that global demand for seaweed could reach 40-43 million tons by 2029.
