Jakarta, Dec. 23 -- The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) prepared a zoning plan for specific Blue Carbon National Strategic Areas (KSN) in the Derawan waters, East Kalimantan, and developed a sedimentation management plan for 10 provinces.
Director General of Marine Spatial Planning at KKP, Kartika Listriana said that strengthening blue carbon and sedimentation management are part of marine spatial planning to support the blue economy while protecting coastal ecosystems.
"Nationally, Indonesia's blue carbon potential reaches more than 30 million tons of carbon, with seagrass cover covering approximately 660,000 hectares," Listriani stated at the 2026 KKP Performance Achievements press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
