Jakarta, June 24 -- Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) aims to begin operating a domestically produced electric commuter train (KRL), built by state-owned company INKA, by the end of this year.

KCI President Director Asdo Artriviyanto said the train will enter service once it completes its testing phase.

"It must be operational this year-everything is proceeding according to plan. INKA is currently conducting endurance and parameter testing," he said on Tuesday.

Between January 30 and May 22, KCI added eight new train sets to its fleet: seven from China's CRRC Qingdao Sifang and one from INKA.

Five of the CRRC-made trains are already in operation, while the remaining two are still undergoing testing.
