Jakarta, Nov. 12 -- Indonesia's Environment Ministry has launched an investigation into the deaths of two endangered Mahakam dolphins found in a tributary of the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan, following a report from the Rare Aquatic Species of Indonesia Foundation (RASI).
Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said in a statement here Wednesday that the law enforcement would be pursued in line with environmental regulations to protect the dolphins and preserve river ecosystems.
He stressed that all activities along the Mahakam River must meet permit and water quality standards, warning that violations would not be tolerated.
