Karawang, W Java, June 29 -- Indonesia could cut fuel imports by up to 300,000 kiloliters annually once the electric vehicle battery factory in Karawang, West Java, reaches its full capacity of 15 GWh, a minister said.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Integrated EV Battery Industry Ecosystem on Sunday, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the factory could supply batteries for up to 300,000 electric cars.

He also projected that future demand, including for solar power systems, could push the factory's output to 40 GWh.
