Jakarta, Nov. 17 -- The search and rescue operation for landslide victims in Cilacap, Central Java, was expanded on the fifth day of the emergency response period, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said Monday.

BNPB Disaster Data and Information Center head Abdul Muhari said the expansion followed the discovery of several new locations suspected of containing victims.

The joint SAR team divided the search area into sectors to accelerate and streamline the evacuation process.

As of 11:00 local time, the team had recovered three bodies, bringing the death toll to 16. Seven residents remained missing and were still being searched for by the joint team.
