Jakarta, June 22 -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation in responding to global issues, particularly the conflict in the Middle East.

"We must not give up on diplomacy. However, we must also see our role in strengthening multilateralism and international law. The OIC must be more assertive," Sugiono stated at the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul on Saturday (June 21).

He considered the ongoing horror in Palestine due to Israeli military aggression as evidence of "the failure of the multilateral system in guaranteeing justice".
