Jakarta, Dec. 9 -- Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has issued a circular letter restricting all regional government heads from making overseas trips until January 15 to ensure their presence in assisting citizens affected by disasters and extreme weather.

He stated that the circular aims to keep all local leaders stationed in their respective regions, particularly those in cities and districts across three Sumatra provinces recently hit by major floods and landslides.

"I want regional heads to stand by in their regions, particularly those currently reeling from disasters," Karnavian remarked during a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
