Jakarta, Jan. 12 -- President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia officially achieved rice self-sufficiency as of December 31, 2025.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Sekolah Rakyat program in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Monday, the president said the achievement was reached despite the challenges posed by the El Nino phenomenon and prolonged drought that affected Indonesia throughout 2024 and 2025.

"On December 31, 2025, Indonesia officially achieved rice self-sufficiency. During mid-2024 and 2025, we experienced El Nino and a prolonged drought, yet we were able to overcome these challenges," the president said during an online meeting with the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.
