Jakarta, June 23 -- Indonesia and Russia have agreed to enhance their strategic cooperation in sports through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Youth and Sports Minister Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo and Russian Sports Minister Michael Degtyarev.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 in Russia on Thursday (June 19). It marks a joint commitment to developing an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable sports ecosystem.

"Sports is a universal language that can serve as a bridge for friendship and global collaboration, especially in preparing a superior and competitive young generation," Ariotedjo said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
