Jakarta, June 14 -- Indonesia and New Zealand have agreed to work together on halal product assurance by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) recognizing each other's halal certification systems.

The MoU was signed in Jakarta on Friday by Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), and New Zealand's Ambassador to Indonesia, Phillip Taula.

In a statement released on Saturday, Hasan said the agreement marks a new chapter in strengthening cooperation between the two countries, especially in the halal trade sector.
