Jakarta, Dec. 24 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the critically endangered Sumatran elephant ( Elephas maximus sumatranus ) through cooperation with India-based conservation centre Vantara, including efforts to revitalise elephant hospitals in the country.
In a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday, Ahmad Munawir, Director of Species and Genetic Conservation at the ministry's Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), said the government is strengthening protection for the Sumatran elephant, whose population is in critical condition.
One of the efforts includes a visit to the Elephant Hospital at Way Kambas National Park alongside Faunaland Indonesia...
