Jakarta, Jan. 26 -- Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that India could have the potential to support the downstreaming of Indonesia's coal sector.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he said that India could also invest in Indonesia's nickel, which is important for the development of electric vehicle batteries.

"Cooperation in the nickel downstream sector can be very strategic for both countries," Lahadalia said in the statement.

He added that Indonesia could become a production center for electric vehicle batteries, while India plays a role as a major partner in the global supply chain.

The minister accompanied President Prabowo Subianto on a visit to New Delhi on Saturday.
