Jakarta, May 1 -- Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, pledged to strengthen policies to protect labor rights and create a prosperous future for workers during the commemoration of International Labor Day on Thursday.

"We must strengthen government policies, regulations, and programs to realize the protection of labor rights, the creation of a safe and harmonious work environment, and a prosperous future for workers," she said in a statement released on Thursday.

She added that Labor Day is an important moment to reflect on efforts made so far to secure labor rights.
