Jakarta, Dec. 22 -- House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani invited Indonesian women to take part in safeguarding the environment on the occasion of Mother's Day.

"Mother's Day in Indonesia, commemorated every December 22, is a Mother's Day with unique characteristics whose history must not be forgotten," Maharani said in her written statement received here on Monday.

According to her, women have a role in protecting the earth and the future of coming generations.

She said the major role of women in sustainability does not emerge suddenly, but is shaped by life experiences, social responsibilities, and women's closeness to sources of life.
