Jakarta, Oct. 12 -- Regional authorities must strengthen fiscal discipline following the central government's move to cut and reallocate regional transfer funds (TKD), Home Minister Tito Karnavian said on Sunday.
"The reallocation is not a careless reduction. It should serve as a reminder for regional governments to improve fiscal discipline and focus on priority programs that directly benefit the people," Karnavian said in a written statement.
He said the central government would assist regions facing fiscal strain due to the reallocation, provided they show commitment to better budget management and more efficient spending.
