Jakarta, June 29 -- The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has officially sealed an aluminum smelter in Cikarang, West Java, for failing to manage its emissions, which contributed to air pollution in the Greater Jakarta area.
"This sealing is a firm measure against businesses that neglect their duty to control air pollution. KLH will continue to act against similar violations in Jabodetabek and beyond," said KLH Deputy for Law Enforcement, Rizal Irawan, in Jakarta on Sunday.
He explained that the action followed an inspection by the supervisory team, which found that PT MPI in East Cikarang, Bekasi District, had failed to manage emissions from 10 active smelting furnaces.
