Jakarta, May 14 -- The Ministry of Health has set the target of improving the national health-adjusted life expectancy (HALE) to 65 years from the current 63 years in the 2025-2029 Health Master Plan.

During a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that HALE is a measure of the number of years someone is expected to live healthily.

He informed that Indonesia's life expectancy currently stands at 74 years. However, the HALE measure indicates that Indonesians tend not to remain in good health after they turn 63.

According to the minister, this issue needs to be addressed to ensure a better quality of life, so that people can live long in good health.
