Jakarta, Nov. 6 -- The Indonesian government is promoting villages in the country to become food and energy resilient as part of efforts to build economic self-reliance and ecological sustainability at the local level.

"The government encourages villages to become food and energy resilient villages, meaning that they are able to meet their own basic needs," Deputy Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Ahmad Riza Patria said in a statement cited on Thursday.

This was conveyed by the deputy minister in a dissemination of information event in Tegal, Central Java, on Wednesday.
