Solo, Central Java, April 18 -- The government has closed hundreds of open-dumping sites nationwide as part of its endeavors to address environmental concerns.
During a working visit to the Putri Cempo Final Waste Processing Site (TPA) on Friday, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the government has enforced the closure of 343 TPAs that practice open dumping, where waste is disposed of without proper handling.
"This is what we call open dumping, which leads to serious environmental pollution," he remarked.
He confirmed that the 343 open-dumping sites lacking proper waste handling have been ordered to cease operations.
This directive is based on Law Number 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management.
