Jakarta, Aug. 6 -- The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) employs a cultural approach to trace the history of major tsunamis in Java Island's southern part by examining the connection between ancient sites and possible past disaster events.

Purna Sulastya Putra, a researcher at BRIN's Geological Disaster Research Center, explained here on Wednesday that one of the research locations is the Batu Kandiri Site in Pangandaran, West Java.

The site is mentioned in the 15th-century travel accounts of Dujang Ramanik and was abandoned by local communities after that period.
