Jakarta, Jan. 2 -- House of Representatives (DPR) member Rudianto Lallo said that the newly effective Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) serves as a guide for law enforcers to avoid using the law to oppress or criminalize citizens.

As a drafter of the legislation, he expressed hope that disputes and controversies related to misuse of law will no longer occur with the new KUHAP. He emphasized that both the KUHAP and the criminal code (KUHP) represent a new direction for Indonesia's legal system.
