Jakarta, March 7 -- The Ministry of Public Works has said that the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam in West Java are now functional and are capable of controlling floods.
"The Ciawi and Sukamahi dams have already shown their performance," director general of water resources at the ministry, Lilik Retno Cahyadiningsih, said here on Friday.
"During the recent flood, the Ciawi Dam was able to hold two million cubic meters of water and the Sukamahi Dam 0.3 million cubic meters," she expounded.
She further said that the reason flooding still occurred in Puncak, Bogor, Bekasi, and parts of Jakarta this week was extreme weather.
