Jakarta, July 18 -- The Indonesian government has increased the target of domestic absorption of rice by state-owned logistics company Bulog for this year by 1 million tons.

As per Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2025, Bulog's rice absorption target for 2025 was 3 million tons. This has now been increased to 4 million tons.

"Throughout the year, there is no El Nino; there is rain throughout the year. Thus, our rice reserves must be increased from 3 million tons to 4 million tons," Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, said at his ministry's office in Jakarta on Thursday.

In addition to bolstering rice reserves, the target has been raised to maintain paddy prices and prevent them from sliding further.
