Batam, Riau Islands, Sept. 6 -- Indonesia's State Logistics Agency Bulog is expanding the distribution of its Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) rice to remote islands in Riau Islands Province to ensure access beyond urban centers.

Guido XL Pereira, head of Bulog Batam, said distribution efforts in Karimun District are being stepped up to meet rising demand.

"Average daily sales in Karimun now reach 10 tons. We're regularly delivering to smaller islands. Today, we're sending shipments to Kundur and Belat Islands," Pereira said on Saturday.

Bulog operates warehouses in both Batam City and Karimun District. As of Friday, September 5, SPHP rice sales in Karimun totaled 52.8 tons, toward a monthly target of 594.6 tons.
