Makassar, S Sulawesi, June 23 -- The South Sulawesi Office of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is further investigating four drug trafficking cases involving eight couriers allegedly connected to Indonesia-Malaysia drug syndicates.
"We are still digging deeper into the cases involving Indonesian women in these smuggling operations," said Police Senior Commissioner Ardiansyah, Head of Law Enforcement and Intelligence at the BNN South Sulawesi Office, on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that limited economic opportunities were a major factor in the women's recruitment by Malaysian drug lords, who enlisted them to smuggle methamphetamine into Makassar, South Sulawesi.
