Jakarta, Dec. 23 -- The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has mapped out areas prone to heavy rainfall during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, especially in Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, to bolster transportation safety.

BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani, in the Climate Outlook 2026 press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, stated that his agency had zoned the peak of the rainy season across various regions in Indonesia to support cross-sector preparedness during the year-end holiday period.

The peak of the rainy season in Sumatra, particularly from the northern to central areas and South Sumatra, generally occurs in December.
