Jakarta, July 31 -- The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), on Wednesday night, lifted the early tsunami warning previously issued for several Indonesian regions after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Russia's Kamchatka on Wednesday morning.

Director for Earthquake and Tsunami at BMKG, Daryono, confirmed via a text message that the warning, which was in effect since 6:24 a.m. local time, was officially lifted at 11:00 p.m. local time.

He explained that the warning was lifted based on the marigram analysis, which studies sea level records.

According to Daryono, data from the monitoring points showed that the waves had significantly decreased.
