Jakarta, July 30 -- The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the tsunami early warning issued after the 8.7M earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia, on Wednesday morning was based on detailed modeling specific to Indonesia.

Director of Earthquakes and Tsunami at BMKG, Daryono, stated on Wednesday that his agency took the initiative to model specific scenarios even though the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) did not list Indonesia as an affected area.

According to Daryono, the modeling indicated a potential tsunami alert status for 10 regions in eastern Indonesia.
