Manokwari, July 30 -- The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) urged coastal residents and fishermen in Manokwari, West Papua, to remain vigilant for high waves that may trigger a tsunami at 4:18 p.m. Eastern Indonesia Time on Wednesday.
Agus Susilo, a forecaster at the Rendani Manokwari Climatology Station, stated that the tsunami early warning was issued after a magnitude 8.6 earthquake struck the Sea of Kamchatka, Russia, at 6:24 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday (July 30).
"This earthquake has the potential to trigger tsunami waves in several parts of Indonesia, including Manokwari District," Agus remarked.
