Jakarta, Aug. 25 -- Bank Indonesia (BI) on Monday launched cross-border QR code payments with Japan, allowing Indonesians and Japanese tourists to make cashless transactions via mobile phones.
"Starting today, we are implementing cross-border QR payments between Indonesia and Japan," BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said at the official launch in Jakarta.
The initiative enables around 500,000 tourists from both countries to pay in either nation using the Indonesian standard QR code system (QRIS), eliminating the need to carry rupiah or yen.
