Bengkulu, May 23 -- The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), through its Kepahiang Geophysics Station, confirmed that the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Bengkulu on Friday was caused by deformation activity.
"This earthquake was triggered by intraslab activity or deformation beneath the crust. The tremors were felt across almost the entire Bengkulu Province, with Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) levels ranging from III to VI," observer Muhammad Najib explained here on Wednesday.
He added that no aftershocks have been recorded following the magnitude 6.0 quake, which occurred at a depth of 84 kilometers below sea level.
