Bekasi, Aug. 21 -- A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck southeast of Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday evening, damaging several buildings and prompting the cancellation of high-speed train services, local authorities said.
The Bekasi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that a mushalla (small mosque) in Sukabungah Village, Bojongmangu Subdistrict, collapsed due to the tremor, though no casualties were reported.
"The quake was felt across Bekasi. One mushalla collapsed, but thankfully there were no injuries," BPBD head Muchlis told reporters in Cikarang on Wednesday.
Several houses and government buildings in neighboring Karawang District were also damaged.
