Indonesia, Aug. 30 -- KH Taefur Arafat, chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Banyumas District, Central Java, urged the public to remain calm and avoid violence following recent protests in Jakarta that led to fatalities.
Speaking in Purwokerto, Banyumas District, on Saturday, Taefur urged the public to entrust the investigation of the incident, which claimed lives, to the authorities so it can be handled fairly under the law.
"We should leave it to the authorities to deal with the case. Here in Banyumas, let us stay calm, avoid provocation, and maintain a conducive environment," he said in response to several protests demanding justice for Indonesia's poor that erupted in a number of Indonesian cities.
