Merak, Sept. 13 -- The state-owned ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is transforming Merak Port in Banten and Bakauheni Port in Lampung into green ports by installing large-capacity solar panels.

"We hope that the development of these green ports will protect the marine ecosystems around the ports," said ASDP President Director Heru Widodo in a written statement in Merak on Saturday.

He explained that the installation of large-capacity solar panels, along with a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and a hazardous waste treatment facility (B3), are innovations to conserve energy and protect the surrounding marine environment.
