Jakarta, Aug. 7 -- Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the agriculture sector remains strong and continues to play a vital role in supporting Indonesia's economic growth.

"Amid global uncertainty, agriculture stands out as the backbone of the national economy," Minister Amran noted in a statement from Jakarta on Thursday.

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, the national economy grew by 5.12 percent year-on-year and 4.04 percent quarter-to-quarter.

The sector contributed 13.83 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP), making it the second-largest contributor after manufacturing.
