Jakarta, Aug. 30 -- Former 1998 student movement activists, now organized under the 98 Resolution Network, voiced support for President Prabowo Subianto's policies, saying recent protests echoed his commitment to fighting corruption and protecting public welfare.
Haris Rusly Moti, a leading member of the group, said in a statement here Saturday that Prabowo has taken firm steps to tackle major graft cases, particularly in the natural resources sector.
He noted the president's move to reclaim 3.1 million hectares of disputed palm oil land from what he described as "serakahnomic (greedynomic)" groups.
"This marks a starting point to improve fiscal governance and advance economic equity," Haris said.
