Ethiopia, Sept. 29 -- Dilla University announces that it is collecting more than 400 species of plants and is using them for research.

The university has started construction of a laboratory at a cost of 5 million birr.

Director of the Center for Plant Protection and Ecotourism at Dilla University, Mitiku Munda, told ENA that the university has set up a center to protect endangered plants.

He said more than 400 indigenous plants that can be used for food, cosmetics and other uses are being collected and cared for at the center.

He said the plants are being cared for and monitored in a way that is conducive to research and teaching.
