Hanoi, May 21 -- Viettel Group successfully secured the coveted B2-B2' spectrum blocks (713-723 MHz and 768-778 MHz) in an auction held on May 20. The military - owned telecom giant outbid Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) after two rounds of bidding. Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel Group, said the winning bid amounted to more than 1.95 trillion VND (75 million USD), which he noted is comparable to average global prices for similar spectrum allocations. This marked the corporation's fourth attempt to acquire the 700 MHz band, underscoring its strategic importance to the company's target to increase its network coverage to 99% by 2030.
