Hanoi, Aug. 7 -- Vietnam's fisheries sector has seen a 3.1% year-on-year increase in total output, reaching an estimated 5.5 million tonnes from the beginning of 2025 to date, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. This included 3.93 million tonnes of fish, up 2.8%, and 793,400 tonnes of shrimp, marking a 5.6% rise. Despite the overall growth, the sector continues to face several challenges. Key issues include declining natural fishery resources, overfishing, low economic efficiency, weak logistics infrastructure, and fragmented, small-scale production.
