Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 7 -- The US has described Malaysia's role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as vital in helping ease tension between Thailand and Cambodia.
US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan said Malaysia's leadership was evident in the successful hosting of the General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting on August 7, which brought the concerned parties together.
Kagan, who attended the meeting as an observer, added that the US strongly supports Malaysia's role in ASEAN and is working closely with the country to develop long-term mechanisms to ensure the ceasefire holds.
