Bangkok, July 21 -- Thai authorities have activated a 24-hour "war room" for real-time weather monitoring and disaster coordination following a warning from the Thai Meteorological Department (TDM) about incoming heavy rainfall in several provinces in the north as Typhoon Wipha is predicted to hit the North of Vietnam on July 22. Phumtham Wechayachai, Thailand's acting Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, said on July 20 that heavy rain is forecast for the northern and northeastern regions from July 22-23, potentially raising the Mekong River's water level.
