Singapore, Feb. 3 -- The first solar farm at a military base in Singapore has been launched at Sembawang Air Base to meet the growing energy needs of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing said this was an important milestone for the SAF, noting that the project contributes to the nation's overall efforts to enhance energy resilience, including sustainable energy production and demand management.

The new solar power farm is expected to generate 18 MWp by the end of 2026, equivalent to powering around 4,700 four-room Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats annually, potentially saving about 1.9 million SGD (about 1.5 million USD) in costs each year.
