Nghe An, Nov. 26 -- A red-faced monkey (Macaca arctoides), a rare and endangered species, was handed over to authorities by a local resident in Hung Chan commune, Nghe An province, on November 25.

The adult monkey, weighing about 6kg, was transferred to the Wildlife Rescue Centre at Pu Mat National Park, where experts will monitor its health and provide care before reintroduction into its natural habitat.

Red-faced monkeys are the largest in the Macaca genus and are classified as endangered in Vietnam (Group IIB), listed in the Vietnamese Red Book and the IUCN Red List. They play a key role in maintaining biodiversity in Vietnam's forests.
