Hanoi, Jan. 20 -- The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) officially opened at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on the morning of January 20. Attending the congress are 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide. Of these, 163 are ex officio delegates (accounting for 10.28%); 353 are elected delegates (22.25%); and 1,070 are appointed delegates (67.47%). Male delegates number 1,285, making up 81.02%, while female delegates total 301, or 18.98%. Delegates from ethnic minority groups number 167, accounting for 10.53%.
