Hanoi, Aug. 19 -- A total of 55 political parties have registered to participate in Myanmar's upcoming general election, nine of which are expected to compete nationwide, according to state-run Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV).

MRTV earlier cited an announcement from Myanmar's Union Election Commission stating that the country plans to launch the first phase of the general election on December 28, outlining a roadmap for the first vote in nearly five years. The election will be conducted in multiple phases, but specific dates for subsequent phases have not yet been determined and will be announced later, depending on the security situation.
