Kuala Lumpur, Sept. 9 -- The Malaysian government has issued an emergency order to tighten security at all liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak state, following the detection of a serious security threat targeting the sites.
The National Security Council (MKN) on September 8 confirmed that it had received information on the matter, and directed all operators in the area to step up safety protocols while investigations are carried out.
The government, through MKN, has instructed all LNG facilities in Bintulu to enhance security controls immediately on a temporary basis, it said in a statement.
This is to enable security forces and the relevant authorities to conduct immediate investigations into the threat.
